Yue Tang Sugarcane is a beautiful Orange & Green combination. This variety is also know to have a White "natural bloom" coloring which is the powdery film that forms on the surface of the Sugarcane stalks to protect it from moisture loss and pests.

Why Grow Yue Tang Sugarcane?

  • Rich, Sweet Flavor: Naturally high in sucrose, Yue Tang is known for its exceptional taste and juicing quality.
  • Fast Growing: This variety grows rapidly and can reach 10 to 12 feet tall when mature in about a year.
  • Easy to Propagate: Each cutting can produce multiple canes with the right care.
  • Beautiful in the Landscape: Its tall stalks and elegant leaves make it a functional privacy screen.
  • Great for All Growers: Whether you’re planting in the ground or starting in pots, this sugarcane is simple and low-maintenance.

Growing Instructions

  • Planting Zone: Best suited for USDA zones 8 through 11.  For colder regions: a greenhouses, large movable pots, or grow seasonally outdoors with heavy mulching, harvesting before winter freezes. Colder regions have more of a challenge to grow the Sugarcane.
  • Planting Method: Plant horizontally about 2 - 4 inches below the soil surface with nodes facing sideways. Cover lightly with soil and mulch.
  • Sunlight: Full sun is ideal for the healthiest growth and sweetest flavor.
  • Watering: Keep soil moist during germination. Sugarcane love water but overwatering in the beginning can rot out the propagations.
  • Timeline: New shoots typically emerge within 4 weeks. Harvestable canes are usually ready in 9 to 12 months.

How to Harvest

Cut stalks just above the soil line with clean shears or a machete. Sugarcane regrows year after year from the same root base, so you can enjoy multiple harvests from a single planting.

FAQs

How long will it take to receive my sugarcane cuttings?
We harvest them fresh and ship them to you in about a week.
What type of growing conditions does sugarcane prefer?
Sugarcane prefers to grow in hot, humid climates with plenty of moisture and fertile soil. Sugarcane grows well in Florida and the bordering states.
Where should I plant my sugarcane in the ground?
Sugarcane loves wet areas and full sun. Ask yourself these questions: On your property, where does the rainwater sit after a storm? On your property, is there a spot that stays more "spongy" or "squishy" when you walk on it or drive a lawnmower? Plant them there. Add a flag or marker so no one accidentally steps on or runs over them.
If I order the amount of "4," what should I expect to receive in the mail?
You can expect 4 sticks, about 6 to 9 inches long, of sugarcane. Each stick will have about 2 to 4 "nodes" where the sugarcane will sprout from.
How do I plant them?
Planting in the Ground: Bury the cutting horizontally 3 inches below the soil, mulch, water it in, and let it root. Make sure the area stays moist. Add water if needed.
Planting in a Pot: Bury the cutting horizontally 2 inches below the soil, mulch, water it in, and let it root. Keep the pots moist in a shaded, warm area.
How long does it take until I start to see sugarcane sprouting up after I plant the cuttings?
Roughly 4 to 6 weeks. We've seen them come up in as soon as two weeks. Make sure the soil does not dry out while waiting for them to sprout up.
How long should I wait to plant them once they arrive at my doorstep?
Plant them in the soil the same day you get them in the mail. This gives you the best chance to sprout the sugarcane clippings.
